Finally, after all this rain, the sun came out! Jubi and I were dying to step outside. You know, we can't walk in the rain so we've been inside forever!
For a while, we just stood on the porch, basking in the sunlight.
Jubi smiled. "It's lovely, isn't it?" She murmured happily. "Yep! I wonder if Spicemuffin's disappointed that the thunderstorms are gone." I replied.
Jubi laughed. "She likes the sun, too, you know."
"Yeah, when there's a trampoline to jump on, gymnastics to do outside, a potential photoshoot, or a swimming pool to swim in. Take those away, and she has no interest in the sun. Very narrow-minded."
"Ivy!" Jubilee scolded me.
"You shouldn't say such things about her," She continued. I looked away. "Let's start down the path."
Pretty soon, our little misunderstanding was forgotten as Jubilee discovered how big the lilies had grown! "I know!" I agreed. "Just last summer, they were teeny baby plants. Not even a fourth of the size they are now!"
Jubilee pointed out the pretty dewdrops on the leaves. We were both relieved the ants had not invaded yet. Ants and bugs are so frightening!
I mentioned that I had heard that plants like to be talked to. So for a while, we chatted with the plants. I'm sure they loved it! {I'm also quite sure that they've had enough talking to last a while.}
Later down the path, I found this AWESOME rock. It was like a bowl, and it held some water. Isn't that just cool? I thought it was.
"Hey Jubi!" I called. "Come check out this crazy rock!" I pointed at it, motioning for her to come take a look.
She came close and glanced at the rock. "I see why you like it!" She stated cheerfully.
"Look at that!" Jubi tugged at my arm. "Do you see it?"
A black cat! "Do you suppose those superstitions about the black cats are real? Are they really bad luck?" She wondered.
Now it was my turn to scold. "Jubilee Noelle!" I said. "Mama wouldn't approve! Remember her lesson on Sunday? There is no such thing as luck. She wouldn't like you worrying about superstitions."
Good-natured Jubi took the correction well, and nodded.
At the end of our walk, we strolled to the dog park and sat on our favorite boulder. "Too bad we didn't bring Ella and Winterberry," I sighed. "They would've loved the dewy grass!" Jubilee replied.
Suddenly, she turned and looked at me. Not sure what she wanted, I smiled. "Ivy Virginia," She said, "I'm glad you're my best friend."
I was a bit surprised, but very pleased. "I'm so very thankful that I have a best friend like you, Jubilee. Best friends forever?"
"Best friends forever!" We laughed together.
THE END
